Extremely heavy, painful periods since giving birth?

I had my son 5 months ago and have had 3 periods since. Every one have been unbearably painful and extremely heavy, so much so i literally flood. When i had my first son i'm sure my periods got better after his birth. Has anyone else experienced a difference in their menstrual cycle, and is this now what i have to look forward to every month from now on?
